The "Oven Effect"
Mobile homes in California City face a unique challenge: they have thinner walls, less attic insulation, and often sit on raised foundations that allow hot air to circulate underneath. This turns your home into an oven by 2 PM.
The Weakest Link: Crossover Ducts
In double-wide homes, a large flexible duct connects the two halves of the house underneath the floor. Animals (coyotes, rabbits, cats) love to tear these open to stay cool.
The Result: You are blowing 50% of your expensive AC air into the dirt under your house. If one side of your house is hot while the other is cold, check your crossover duct immediately.
Package Units vs. Split Systems
Most mobile homes use "Package Units" (where the AC and heater are in one big box outside). These are great because they don't take up closet space, but they are exposed to the brutal Cal City elements.
Replacement Tip: Never let a contractor install a standard house unit on a mobile home. You need a unit rated for "high static pressure" because mobile home ducts are smaller and more restrictive.
Metal Roof Coating
If you have an original metal roof, coating it with a white, reflective elastomeric paint (Cool Roof coating) can drop the interior temperature by 10-15 degrees. It's the cheapest upgrade you can make.
One Side of House Hot?
It's probably the crossover duct. We crawl underneath so you don't have to.
